This site is owned and run by Martin Thomson, a record collector and sometime DJ who lives in London, UK. Martin has run his own rare soul related website on the internet since around 1996, starting with soul-a-go-go which has now morphed over time into www.northern-soul.com .
Martin collects all sorts of 45s himself including northern soul, 60's jazz, latin and hammond and early 80's synth/new wave (especially Devo, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Thomas Dolby and Gary Numan/Tubeway Army). Apart from liking northern and 60's mod style sounds, he also has a weak spot for collecting 60's UK beat artists who had releases on USA labels.
Martin started DJing on the northern soul scene around 1997, and was a resident at a number of London northern soul clubs including These Old Shoes, Soul in the City and Solid Hit Soul. He has a love of original vinyl, and understands that for collectors, reissues, MP3s and CD's simply won't do.
Martin also runs another community music website at www.medwaypowerhouse.com which caters for afficianados of music from the north Kent delta area (in south east England) which spawned a generation of great bands in the late 70's and 80's and beyond including The Prisoners, The Milkshakes (featuring Billy Childish), The Claim, Dentists, The James Taylor Quartet and many more.
The idea behind this site was to offer an alternative music marketplace geared squarely at record collectors (and dealers) without the fees and the corporate approach of other dominant sites. We hope you will register and use the site to buy and sell your beloved vinyl.
It's an indie site in a sea of corporate domination. Please support us and tell your friends about it.
